The Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH), established in 1909, comprises 20 athletic programs from independent and charter schools across Oʻahu. Member institutions such as ‘Iolani School, Punahou School, and Damien Memorial School offer students opportunities to participate in a wide array of sports, including basketball, football, soccer, and volleyball. These programs emphasize not only athletic prowess but also personal growth and teamwork.

For instance, ‘Iolani School fields teams in sports ranging from baseball and basketball to judo and sailing, providing students with diverse avenues to excel. Similarly, Punahou School’s athletic program includes baseball, basketball, football, and soccer, fostering a competitive spirit among its students.

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa: Collegiate Athletics on the National Stage

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UH Mānoa) stands as a beacon of collegiate athletics in Honolulu. With approximately 450 student-athletes competing in 21 men’s, women’s, and co-ed varsity teams, UH Mānoa offers a robust NCAA Division I athletics program. Sports include baseball, basketball, football, golf, sailing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and water polo.

In a significant development, UH Mānoa announced its transition to full membership in the Mountain West Conference, effective from the 2026–27 academic year. This move encompasses 15 conference-sponsored sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track & field, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, and volleyball. The affiliation aims to enhance competitive opportunities and elevate the university’s athletic profile.
